How to Create VPN Connection in Linux
A Virtual Private Network(VPN) allows you to create a secure connection between your system to another system over the network. It also plays important role in intranet Network, to transfer datas securely from one node to another. VPNs are Commonly used to Shield your browsing activity on Public Wi-Fi, Unblovking Websites and Bypass filters, Online Anonymity, Remote control,Enhanced Security and much more.
In this tutorial, We will setting up a VPN Connection in a Linux(Ubuntu) machine.
Steps to Configure VPN Connection in Ubuntu(Linux):
Step1: click on the Wi-Fi symbol on the top right corner and the available Wi-Fi's and options will be drop down.
Step2: Since we are going to Create VPN Connections, click on 'VPN Connections' and click 'Configure VPN'
Step3: Now you will get the Network Connections Dialog Box with VPN Tab opened.
Step4: Go-ahead and click Add button to create VPN Connection.
Step5: Choose Point-to-Point Tunnelling Protocal from the drop down and Click Create.
Step6: On the "Editing" window, edit the following fields:
- Connection Name: Name of your VPN Connection
- Gateway: The Domain name or IP Address of your Server, which you want to connect.
- User name: This is your VPN account's username.
- Password: The password for the above username.
- NT Domain: Leave this blank.
- Available to all users: Check this, Incase if you want to share this VPN Connection.
Step7: Now click "Advanced…" option.
Step8: Once you got the "PPTP Advanced Options" window, under "Security and Compression", check the box for "Use Point-to-Point encryption (MPPE)". Select "All Available (Default)" from the "Security" drop down menu, click "OK", and then finally click "Save".
Step9: Now your VPN has been listed under the VPN Connections. Click on inorder to connect.
On the sucessful connection, you will get VPN Message says Successfully connected to VPN Network.
